Hi I have an assortment of horses, Arabs mostly, three thoroughbreds, and a couple of Walers. No Exmoor ponies. I have a long held ambition of owning a couple of Exmoors to drive in a reconstructed British chariot! An ambition doomed to wait many years I expect, as I'm (foolishly) addicted to Arabian racing, which, in Australia, only happens in Melbourne, Victoria, approx 1300km (780miles?) away!!!!!! Iam an artist, sculptor and writer, and I've joined this forum hoping for information regarding these charming little ponies.

Hello and welcome! Are there really no Exmoor ponies in Australia? I think you are right Rachael - there should be some :-)

Hi Christine. Sue Bakers book , Survival of the Fittest has a small amount about chariots and the Romans and a photo of possible harnessing. Anthony Dent's The Pure Bred Exmoor Pony has a photo of a reproduction chariot made for a B.B.C program

G'day, Whereabouts in Melbourne are you ? My brother lives in Berwick - I visited him 6 months ago . One of his friends was quite interested in Exmoors , perhaps we can export some to you

I have a really interesting book called Ponies in Australia by Laura Howlett. There were 2 Exmoors exported called Sir Thomas(Acland) and Dennington Court. This was in the early 1900s and used to help start the breeding of the Australian pony.
